LT Milo Coldren,  Cadet Unit Commander
Lieutenant Coldren is passionate about sharing the freedom and excitement of the sea. He sailed to NZ from Canada with his wife Kimberly, and they now run a yacht charter business from Nelson when not having a blast with their fantastic kids, or tutoring maritime skills.  He's sailed extensively throughout the Atlantic and Pacific commercially, competitively, and recreationally, and is proud to call Nelson home.

LTCDR Bob Jamieson, Executive Officer

LTCDR Penelope Hodder, Admin & Stores Officer

Ms Amanda Kerr, Training Officer

Ms Kerr is a former Talisman cadet who is now the Deputy Harbourmaster for Nelson. She was the Coordinating Trades Tutor at NMIT for 10 years, and is passionate about igniting the fires for learning.

Slt Richard Ash
SLT Ash is a professional furniture maker who trained the cadets in restoring the unit's binnacle in 2008. He returned to TS Talisman a few years later once his children had left the nest, and has served as Bosun (Sailing and Assistant Boats Officer).

Ens DJ Smith, Shooting Coach
Ensign Smith served more than 10 years in the Defence Force, first as a Navy seaman/sonar operator for 6 years, followed by 5 years in the Air Force Police. Not ready to sit back, he spent the next 16 years with the NZ Police, finishing as Staff Safety Tactical Officer. He now works with Court Security, is married and they are happily settled in Nelson.

Mr Brett Daniel-Smith, Matahorua Officer
Mr. Daniel-Smith's interest in helping out with Cadets is largely due to the fact that he is slowing down with work as a busy criminal litigation lawyer and will hopefully have more time on his hands. He has maintained a healthy interest in all things nautical for most of his life. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he was a commercial fisherman and diver and holds a Commercial Launch Master qualification. He is a keen sailor having completed in the two handed Round NZ Yacht Race, and is interested in helping youth who have a positive attitude to life.

Mr Trevor Lane, Bosun

Ms Julia Verjkuil, Assistant Stores

CPOCDT Megan Fisk, Unit Coxswain
CPOCDT Fisk is the senior cadet at TS Talisman and sets the tone for cadets by leading by example.

On leave:
Ens Jake Vanderburg,
Ensign Vanderburg was a cadet at Nelson College in his youth, and joined the Army as a Territorial. He has sailed recreationally most his life, and works as a diesel engine fuel injection specialist.  He is in charge of all the TS TALISMAN boats and boatshed, and is also our Gunnery Officer. He is married with an adult daughter, and enjoys spending time with his family.

TS Talisman has been part of the community since 1961
